An easy and cheap way to boost your digestive system, gain energy, and rid yourself of toxins is through the natural epsom salt liver cleanse.
With constant digestion problems, I tried everything in the book: blood tests, Miralax, metamucil, cutting certain foods out of my diet, severely restricting and dieting…. You name it.
It wasn’t until I found a holistic health naturopath in Bali that I started to actually see results with my health.
She gave me a bunch of natural tips on how to get my health back on track--one of them being this epsom salt liver cleanse.
This is a great way to naturally detox your body and get rid of any gallstones clogging your gallbladder.
Disclaimer: Although, I have reaped benefits from this cleanse, I myself am not a professional doctor. Every person and body is different. Please consult with your doctor before doing this natural cleanse. This is not professional medical advice and should be taken cautiously at your own risk.
The best part is that it is only a 48 hour body detox.
No fasting or only drinking expensive green juice for 7 days straight. No fancy supplements. None of that.
The goal of this natural epsom salt liver cleanse is to rid yourself of any gallstones that may be stuck in your gallbladder.
Your gallbladder produces bile to help break down any fats and carry away waste. Without an effective gallbladder, you may experience "pain, inflammation, and infection," (Jones).
Sometimes you may have gallstones and not even notice because your body has gotten used to operating with them at half blast.
Maybe, you simply are curious to try this detox to see if you get any stones out and see how you feel after the fact.
Whatever the reason is that brought you to this page, make sure you are checking in with yourself and using caution as you go about this cleanse.
Yes, it is natural, but ensure that you are okay to drink epsom salt by asking your doctor and testing a little to see if there is a reaction in your body.
With natural ingredients like epsom salt, grapefruit juice and olive oil, this cleanse gently puts pressure on the liver and gallbladder to excrete any excess gallstones.
I’ve noticed that after doing the cleanse, I felt worse before I felt better.
That’s because whenever you start detoxing, your body experiences the toxins that are coming to the surface first before it can get rid of them.
So, if you do not feel great right after the epsom salt liver cleanse, that’s okay.
Give yourself time to rest, relax and recharge before you’re fired up and ready to take your new gallstone-free self out on the town.
Before you start this cleanse, carve out two days where you do not have any obligations.
No meetups with friends. No work. No prestigious award ceremonies (you know the usual).
No nothing.
Just you, your bed and your toilet for the next 48 hours.
Now is the perfect time to watch those movies and Netflix series you’ve been putting off.
Also, be gentle with yourself during these 48 hours.
Be kind and give your body what it needs.
Your mind may want to eat everything in sight when it’s over, yet your stomach, intestines and liver may not be able to handle it.
Be prepared with fruit juice, fruit and something easily digestible for your first meal after the epsom salt liver cleanse.
Perhaps, bone broth or a smashed vegetable puree.

To begin, you will need the following:
-800ml of water
-4 tablespoons of Epsom salt (ensure that you are okay to drink epsom salt by testing a little before and seeing how your body reacts)
-⅔ Cup or 158 ml of grapefruit juice
-½ Cup or 125 ml of Extra virgin Olive Oil (the lighter, the easier it is to get down)
-1-2 cups of freshly squeezed apple juice (5-8 apples if you are juicing them yourself)
I’ve done 5 of these liver cleanses now, and I think I finally figured out the best way to do it.
I know, I know.
It's not super delicious, satisfying, nor nutritious.
I like to talk to my body and tell it that we won't be restricting food forever.
That I am doing this as an experiment to see if my health will improve and I will feel better afterward.
1. At 6pm, mix 100ml of water with 1 tablespoon of epsom salt. Be prepared.
This is going to taste awful. That is why you should also set aside another 100 ml of water WITHOUT epsom salt.
You will have two glasses: 100 ml of water with 1 tablespoon of epsom salt and 100 ml of water.
In order to get this horrific tasting epsom salt drink down, you can alternate swishing the pure water in your mouth. Little sip of epsom salt mixture, little sip of pure water. Keep this up until you finish all 100 ml of each drink.
Woohoo! Congratulate yourself for getting that gross drink down!
Rest and relax.
2. Repeat step 1 with the same procedure 2 hours later at 8pm.
After the second drink, you should have a bowel movement before you take the grapefruit juice and olive oil drink.
This is to simply clear your system.
You won’t see any gallstones here.
3. Two hours later at 10pm, right before bed, prepare your olive oil grapefruit juice drink.
4. Get a mason jar and combine the ⅔ cup of grapefruit juice with the ½ cup of olive oil.
This has an interesting taste. Some people find it easy to gulp this down and others find it quite unnatural.
5. Before you gulp this now, make sure you are ready for bed because you need to lay down asap after you drink this in order to put the most pressure on your liver and get as many gallstones out.
I typically drink this laying in bed and shake the mason jar to mix up the grapefruit juice and olive oil.
After you drink this, try to go right to bed.
Sometimes I have an amazing sleep while other times I wake up with my stomach in pain and churning.
It will all just depend. As always, be kind and gentle to yourself no matter the experience you have.
You may have the urge to use the bathroom during the middle of the night or right when you wake up, that is totally fine.
6. As soon as you can when you wake up, drink the 3rd epsom salt drink using the two glass tactic I wrote about earlier.
7. 2 hours later, drink your last epsom salt drink.
You should have many bowel movements after the first and second drink of the morning.
Take a look and see if any green or mildly brownish yellow gallstones come out.
Who knew looking at your bowels can be so fascinating?!
It’s actually really rewarding when you see some come out because the gross tasting epsom salt drinks were worth it!
8. After another two hours after the last epsom salt drink, drink apple juice to cleanse the system and the liver.
9. Two hours after the apple juice, you can have something light on your stomach. Maybe a smoothie bowl or fruit or bone broth.
You may have some gurgling or stomach pain, but by dinner you should be totally fine.

The naturopath in Bali said that you can do this every two weeks to get all of the stones out.
Some stones may still be stuck even after one, so it’s best to keep up with this.
I typically do a cleanse every two months just to maintain and keep up with it.
I notice more clarity and ease in my digestive system after every one, so that’s why I keep them in my routine.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
If you decide to do this cleanse, I hope it goes well for you and you feel rejuvenated afterwards.
I would love to hear about your experience if you do decide to pursue this natural detox of the epsom salt liver cleanse.
Happy cleansing!
