As a protective measure to make sure all of my needs are met at all times, my brain likes to live in the future.
It worries first about how I’m going to get from point A to point B, then secondly, how I’m going to pay to get from point A to point B and then finally what the heck and where is point B anyway?
In short, my brain worries. A lot.
And I don’t really blame it. It’s just trying to keep me alive and make sure that I am happy.
Yet, the irony of it all is that by trying to ensure my happiness, I am indeed making myself miserable.
When we think so hard about creating a great future for ourselves, we are taking the beauty away from the present moment.
If you’re so busy daydreaming about the ideal job that you want, you’re not enjoying the stepping stone of the job that you have.
Likewise, if we fantasize about the grass being greener on the other side, we aren't appreciating the current grass we're standing on.
My journey in Bali has been a long winded spectacular roller coaster ride of extremely high highs and immense drops.
Most of these drops come from that incessant fear of not knowing what point B is and how I’m going to get there.
We are creatures of our comfort zone, so we often crave stability.
So when I threw all stability to the wind and decided to start my own mindset, yoga and travel business, my brain was throwing red flags all over.
I had one thought that played over and over and over again until I wanted to smash it:
Will I be able to sustain myself financially to maintain this nomadic lifestyle without having to work a job that doesn’t feel aligned?
Up until recently, the answer was foggy.
The dream seemed to be on the other side of a treacherous thunderstorm, and I had no idea how to navigate, let alone see where I was going.
Was I sure that I could truly live my dream of traveling the world while also having a successful business that fills me with genuine joy?
Through all the questioning, I still somehow kept persevering because I always said “well, if not this…what else?”
There was nothing else that I could even fathom doing.
I didn’t listen to advice that told me to “get with the picture” and work a job that financially made the most sense.
Yes, that would’ve been easiest, but I didn’t stop trying to make my dream work.
Which at points, I even questioned if that was naive.
It wasn’t until this month where I could finally see some light shining through the threatening dark clouds.
I am getting paid on YouTube and even got my first brand sponsorship!
The foundations for a new video editing business are starting to form.
My Mindset Course is helping bring more peace and joy into people’s lives. (I am in the midst of recording the online version!)
I am starting a life coaching certification with the opportunity to take on clients and have a supervisor.
And finally, yoga & wellbeing retreats seem to be well within my grasp in the near future.
Yeah, sounds like a ton.
But it's all so exciting!
My dreams finally feel within arms reach.
Now, looking back on it, I wish I could tell myself to trust the timing of your life.
To take the pressure off and let anxiety wash away because it will all work out exactly how it is supposed to.
Worrying is natural.
But being so caught up in the worrying completely ruins the precious present moment that you were once longing for.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So this month, I have been constantly asking myself “how can I trust the timing of my life more?”
Here are the four tips that have helped me trust the timing of my life, so I hope they resonate with you too.
Again, take what works for you, leave what doesn’t.

Write yourself a journal entry as if you are “Future You” who has everything that “Present You” currently desires.
Scientifically, every thought strengthens or builds new neural pathways, so visualization is such an important tool because even if it didn’t necessarily happen in real life, our brain doesn’t know otherwise.
When we visualize our dream life, we create neural pathways that help the subconscious turn these dreams into reality.
Physically writing down these visualizations also strengthens these pathways. It's fun to write and even more fun to look back on it and see all of these things come true.
Also, writing everything out helps clear your mind of any racing thoughts.
Meditate with the intention that you are exactly where you are supposed to be.
Allow yourself to enjoy that current moment that is in front of you.
Life is happening right in front of us, and if we are stressing and worrying about the future, we miss the beauty of the present moment.
Whenever possible, try to bring yourself back to the present state of being by connecting to your five senses.
Where are you presently? What sounds do you hear? What do you see? Who are you with? What does it feel like to be where you are?
Do you feel like your negative thoughts are controlling your life?
Are you ready to finally find peace and joy in your life?

Take time to thank all of the great things currently in your life.
Gratitude lists are the age old self care tool that help us remember the joy in our lives.
Writing out and/or acknowledging all of the wonderful things that have gotten you to where you are today helps you realize you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.
Remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. Enjoy the process.
The cliche “it’s the journey not the destination” is overused for good reason.
Oftentimes, we fall victim to constantly looking ahead to the end result.
“When I finally am financially stable, I will be happy” or “When I get a partner and I feel loved, then I will finally be complete”
We may find ourselves always longing for the next event, the next relationship, marriage, children….always the next chapter-- without stopping for a breath to relish in the current chapter we are in.
When we can embrace the present moment for what it is, we have a deeper, more profound appreciation for our lives.
There is no rush to accomplish everything.
Savor every moment on this bumpy ride.
