My Guide to Bali's Beaches in Uluwatu

Uluwatu is the southernmost part of Bali known for its impeccable surf scene and chill lifestyle. Uluwatu lived up to this stereotype as all of the beaches I went to were fabulous in their own way. Also, every restaurant I dined at had a homey, refreshing and welcoming vibe (you can find my Ultimate Eats Guide here). If you are traveling in Bali, Uluwatu is a must-see!

I absolutely loved my time here, and I hope this guide enhances your trip as well.

Padang Padang Beach

Padang Padang Beach Uluwatu Bali

Small but Mighty

Located on the West side of Uluwatu. This is a bit of a smaller beach. However, what it lacks in size, it makes up for it in activities and people. Lots of people flock to this beach to surf, hangout, and eat. Definitely a great beach to go to as you explore Uluwatu.

Suluban Beach

Suluban Beach Uluwatu Bali

Small but Lovely

I was recommended to go here as it was suggested as Uluwatu’s finest beach. When I arrived there, it was smaller than I expected. Yet, it was incredibly beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this beach, as it was one of the only beaches I actually felt comfortable to swim in due to minimal rocks and seaweed.

Yes, I love the sea, but swimming in it and looking at it are two very different things.

There were barely any people here, but that may simply be because it was around the time when COVID-19 started getting bad and tourists were flocking home in herds.

This beach was so unique and relaxing that I even go to meditate on a rock. If you're looking to meditate on a beach, I highly recommend checking out my meditation guide so you can feel all the inner peace while you explore these beaches.

Melasti Beach

Palmilla Beach Club at Melasti Beach in Uluwatu Bali

High Quality Beach Clubs

This beach is beautiful with lots of options for beach clubs nearby. You can relax by a pool, go for a swim, sip on a cocktail and then dive into the ocean whenever you feel like it. It's the perfect mix. You can easily spend all day here beach club hopping and indulging.

I personally spent a lot of time at Minoo and checked out La Palmilla. You can even get local food on your way out since there are so many local warungs (restaurants) lining the streets.

Padawa Beach

Lots of room for activities!

This beach to me is your standard beach. It is huge with many options of places to sit and beautiful large rocks in the water. This was the first beach I went to in Bali, and it set my expectations high.

Also, there are lots of little shops to buy water or food if you need. Overall, you can spend a whole day here and be beyond content.

Dreamland Beach

Dreamland Beach Uluwatu Bali

My favorite beach

Dreamland takes the cake for my favorite beach because it has everything I could have ever wanted. It is a large beach with lots of space, cafes nearby, body boarding, surfing, swimming, and beautiful water and waves with giant flat rocks.

There is a spot to swim and surf, and then if you walk down the tide goes further out and reveals all these flat rocks that you can walk on and explore. Granted, I only swim in the ocean in places I can stand because I prefer to know what my feet are touching.

So, I personally loved just walking on the rocks and taking in all of the beauty. I even found a spot to do yoga, and I recorded a video for you to learn beginners yoga poses (you can find the video here).

I did appreciate the fact that this beach had the best of both worlds—surfing/swimming and a spot to explore and hangout.

Bingin Beach

Bingin Beach Bali Uluwatu

Popular surf beach

I wanted to do a surf lesson, but I also was thoroughly enjoying watching the incredible surfers ride the waves.

There are nice places to eat like Kelly's Warung (which is also in my Uluwatu Eats Guide) and a luxurious bathing suit shop to explore.

It wasn’t my favorite to swim in, but that’s because, as I mentioned earlier, I don’t enjoy swimming in tons of seaweed and stepping on lots of rocks. For people who are more fearless in this aspect than I am, this truly is a lovely beach all around.

It's also very popular. Many people rave about this beach since it's in a prime location in Uluwatu surrounded by awesome restaurants.

Nyang Nyang Beach

Nyang Nyang Beach Uluwatu Bali

Deserted aquarium

When I went to Nyang Nyang Beach, barely anyone was there. I walked down this very steep winding road to get to the bottom. Once I finally arrived, the tide was so low that I could see the water filled with large flat rocks, algae, fish and water insects. I was having a field day walking on the rocks and stopping to see all of the fish!

There weren’t any places to get water or food, at least at the side of the beach I was on. It seemed like this beach went on for a while, so there could be a completely different side that I totally missed. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the fish up close and personal in their natural habitat.

And that’s it for my Ultimate Uluwatu Beach Guide for traveling in Bali. However much time you have to spend in Uluwatu, be sure to visit the beaches that take your fancy! I’m confident it will enrich your trip in Bali.
